Welcome!
Over the past seven years, I have counseled and coached people and groups in a collaborative, authentic, and supportive way to help them reach their goals.
I completed my undergraduate studies in sociology at UNC Chapel Hill and a Master’s of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from UNC Chapel Hill’s Department of Allied Health Sciences in 2016. Before becoming a Board Certified Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate, I worked closely with adults and families in their homes as a care manager and then as a facilitator with a county-wide education initiative focused on aligning community resources to help kids thrive from cradle-to-career. Besides running Forge Counseling and practicing therapy, I facilitate health and wellness workshops for organizations including nonprofits and local health departments.
In my spare time, you can find me snuggled up on the couch with my family, getting lost in an epic story, enjoying homemade pizza, bringing friends together for game nights, spending time in nature, or training for a race.
How I practice therapy …
People have always fascinated me, individually and socially. And I absolutely believe you cannot explore individual behavior without exploring the surrounding social world. This is why when you partner with me in therapy, you can expect a blend of systems thinking along with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness techniques, Humanistic and Strengths-Based psychology.
I understand that the world around us influences how we think, feel, and act and help clients identify the various systems, social structures, and social constructs that impact or influence their lives. Together, we will explore the thoughts or stories internalized through lived experiences and actions driven by core beliefs. We will also explore, together, where your thoughts and core beliefs come from. We pick up thoughts and write stories about ourselves as we move through the world and from what we learn in every experience or interaction. Working through a systems lens while incorporating evidence-based therapeutic practices offers a holistic approach to recovery and health management by digging deep and challenging the root influencers of your excessive fear, worry, sadness, and distress.
If you decide to work with me, you can expect a warm, approachable, compassionate, and accepting environment. I’ll meet you where you are and work with you at your desired pace. Everyone’s journey looks different. All you have to do is forge on!
Practice Values
All for One and One for All
I provide therapy with an understanding that the systems we live in impact each client differently. I co-create healing plans with clients based on their unique needs, dreams, and strengths.
I actively seek to lift others up and find opportunities that leverage collective talents. I operate from a mindset that 'there is plenty for all' and redistribute resources when possible.
I actively and continuously challenge practices and systems that harm my clients. I vote for local and national leaders willing to disrupt policies and systems that continue to harm people and communities that have been historically marginalized.
Learn Forward
I embrace all the fumbles, trips, and hiccups that are a natural part of growth and I am deeply committed to my own internal work and learning - I practice what I teach.
I habitually seek out learning opportunities to ensure I am up-to-date on best practices and to provide the best possible therapeutic support to my clients. Learning is not static - it is continuous.
I recognize that knowledge and expertise come from many sources, including lived experiences. I learn just as much (if not more) from collaborating with clients and community partners as I might in a classroom or book (even though I love a good book).
Be Real - Be You
I embrace all the imperfectly perfect imperfections. I will accept you exactly as you are. I do not shy away from fun, creativity, humor, and silliness. Bring all your unique traits with you. I will too!
